The Vancouver Avian
Research Centre conducts bird monitoring and banding
programs at 4 locations in Vancouver’s Lower Mainland:
These areas each play
an important regional role in ecological and wildlife
diversity by providing habitat for breeding and
migrating birds.
The primary purpose of each station is to conduct
long-term monitoring of bird populations and migration
using standard monitoring and banding protocols. This
provides data for guiding conservation policies which
may be used to determine the extent to which future
development may impact the migratory and breeding
habitat of birds in the Greater Vancouver area.
Our stations enable and encourage volunteers to
participate in scientific studies of birds and the
environment. The results of these studies and more
general information are made freely available to
researchers and to the public who are welcome to
visit our
station.
Our mission statement is to stimulate your interest in
wild birds and nature by providing opportunities to both
learn about and interact with local and migratory birds.
