Bluebirds with a Bright Future!
I am so thrilled and honoured to be a part of this project! I get to combine my love of nature and birds with a cause to help preserve and protect them. I love the surprise of seeing each stage of their growth and observing how the parents interact and provide for their nestlings. It’s all just an amazing experience!

The Vancouver Avian Research Centre (VARC) is undertaking a Mountain and Western Bluebird nest box monitoring program in Merritt, BC. Originally established by citizen science individuals, VARC took over the program in 2018 when box numbers in the project area totaled over 400 boxes.(Please see Project Overview below)

We are always in need of people to join our teams to monitor boxes and observe the birds.

If you are interested, please contact us and we will take you through the requirements and volunteering in more detail. We do ask people to commit to a season ( May – September) and to monitor your designated boxes every 10 – 14 days.
