VARC Nature Walks

VARC Nature Walks

Bring outdoor learning to your school with a guided Nature Walk led by Vancouver Avian Research Centre educators. These walks take place in natural areas close to your school, such as nearby trails, parks, or greenspaces, allowing students to discover the wildlife and habitats found right in their own community. Students will explore local ecosystems while learning about the birds, plants, and other wildlife that share these spaces.

Throughout the walk, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of birding, including how to identify birds using sight, sound, behaviour, and habitat clues. As they explore, they will develop observation skills, learn how different species interact with one another and their environment, and gain a greater appreciation for the importance of healthy ecosystems and biodiversity.

Each Nature Walk can be adapted to suit different grade levels and curriculum connections, providing an engaging opportunity to reinforce classroom learning through real-world experiences. By encouraging students to slow down, observe carefully, and ask questions, these guided walks foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a lasting connection to the natural world.
