See what it’s like to be a researcher for a day!
We really enjoyed the visits to the nets to see how the process works and how careful everyone was in handling the birds. And, of course, we loved the close-up views of our favourite songbirds! Couldn’t ask for more to make a birder’s day! When do you take bookings for next year?
Lori Austin – Burke Mountain Naturalists
Visiting our station is ideal for people of all age groups. If you are just a few people we highly recommend you attend one of our Family Day programs. For groups such as large families, girl guides, boy scouts, associations etc. we can accommodate you on a separate weekend. So, whether you are an individual who wants to learn more about what we do or a large group of enthusiasts looking to take a birding experience to a new level, we would love to have you come visit us!
When visiting the station visitors are invited to observe the banding, listen to our trained volunteers speak, ask questions, take photographs and hold and release birds under the close supervision of the Bander-in-charge. It is a great way to learn about local bird wildlife, the struggles they face, the ways in which we can all help and to learn from people who are passionate about what we do!
Connect with us to arrange a date to visit but, please keep in mind that the station is operational on weekends and selected weekdays from April 1st – October 31st
Highlights of Visit
- Ability to see local birds up close in their natural environment – and hold and release our birds
- Informative introduction to the research we do and to the species in our park such as identifying groups, field marks, molt, ageing and more!
- Guided experience of the research station
Pricing
VARC is a Registered Charity and is run by volunteers but our programs, equipment and supplies require that we raise money every year.
We, therefore, ask our visitors to help with these costs. If you are just a couple of people please see our Family Day programs as they will be more cost effective.
For other groups we request a contribution of $300 for a group visit (maximum of 20 people recommended). Please note that you may not be the only group at the station – if you want the station to yourselves then please see our VIP Visit.
If you would like to book a visit – please complete the adjacent inquiry form and payment may be made through the visitor payment link on the right.
